Kolmar Korea advances efforts with eco-friendly packaging

Kolmar Korea, a cosmetics original design manufacturer company, is advancing its clean beauty efforts with eco-friendly packaging and sustainable production methods.

The move is aimed at enhancing its environmental, social, and governance management for obtaining a competitive edge in the global market.

Kolmar claims to have introduced the industry’s debut paper tube in 2020, which reduced plastic usage by 80%.

According to the company, the paper tube’s design, which facilitates the separation of paper and plastic, can withstand over 50kg of weight.

In 2023, Kolmar Korea launched the paper stick, made with mineral paper, which it claimed cut plastic use by 86%.

The paper stick product was designed to allow consumers to use the entire product without waste.

In April this year, the company launched the one-hand pump paper pack, which is inspired by a milk carton and integrates a pump function, made from 100% recyclable materials.

A Kolmar Korea spokesperson said: “Developing eco-friendly technologies is not a short-term achievement but a core business strategy to enhance the sustainability of the entire industry. We will continue to demonstrate leadership as a company driving sustainable growth in the global beauty sector.”

Aside from packaging, in 2022, Kolmar Korea said it developed an eco-friendly extraction method for sunflower, lingonberry, and starflower, which not only reduced carbon emissions by 83% but also increased the active ingredient efficacy by 870%.

In 2023, the company replaced microplastics in colour cosmetics with natural silica to enhance texture and stability while promoting sustainability.

Kolmar Korea is also focused on low-carbon and eco-friendly manufacturing processes.

By joining the K-RE100 initiative in 2022, the company has committed to using 100% renewable energy by 2050.
