SodaStream adopts SIG Dome carton bottle for Schorlen syrups

PepsiCo subsidiary SodaStream has selected the SIG Dome 500ml carton bottle for two new syrup varieties: Apple Schorlen‑Mix and Grape Schorlen‑Mix.

The launch represents the sparkling water brand’s move into the Schorlen fruit category and its first deployment of aseptic carton packaging.

The SIG Dome carton bottle combines a bottle-like shape and central closure with the properties of a carton pack.

It offers what the packaging solutions supplier describes as protective, environmental and logistical advantages along with ease of handling due to its light weight.

Produced mainly from FSC‑certified paperboard and utilising 100% renewable electricity, SIG Dome is designed for recycling.

The supplier emphasised that the product’s high proportion of forest‑based renewable material, together with a compact, resource-efficient design, delivers environmental benefits compared with alternative formats such as plastic bottles.

The announcement follows a recent industry development in which tropical fruit ingredients supplier ALCA introduced the first products filled using SIG’s next‑generation aseptic spouted pouch system.

The SIG Prime 55 In‑Line Aseptic system removes the need for third‑party pre‑sterilisation of spouted pouches.

SodaStream senior product manager Dennis Griebling stated: “According to a recent study we conducted together with YouGov and published in our Beverage Compass (Getränkekompass), fruit Schorlen [is] the second most popular soft drink among Germans, right after cola. We now serve this segment with mix for fruit Schorlen in carton packs, which also score points for their good eco profile.”

SIG head of sales for Austria and Switzerland Viktoria Uhl-Pochman noted: “We are convinced that SodaStream spritzers in SIG Dome have the potential to offer consumers a unique and value-adding experience to [make] their SodaStream drinks even more responsible.”
