Faerch expands tray-based rPET supply through Cirrec facility

Faerch’s Cirrec recycling facility has expanded its capacity, now able to supply up to 27,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of tray-based recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) pellets for internal use within the Faerch Group.

The Danish company’s approach involves converting used plastic food trays into new, food-grade packaging through its integrated Cirrec division.

This system is intended to provide greater control over raw material quality and supply chain stability.

Faerch has outlined plans to increase the proportion of tray rPET in its products, aiming for 25%-30% by 2026. According to a company statement, the target is incorporated into its certification processes and is in line with broader sustainability objectives.

By increasing the internal use of tray rPETs, Faerch expects to offer “greater supply stability” while also addressing price volatility and regulatory changes in the market.

Faerch Group recycling divisional CEO Tim Rademacker said: “Faerch ensures stability and quality in food packaging by managing the recycling process through Cirrec.

“This control allows us to secure high standards for raw materials, consistent quality, and reliable supply. Clear and coloured tray rPET offers a stable and sustainable recycled PET source, protecting customers from market volatility and supporting long-term business resilience. With our ambition, we can secure a constant supply and stable quality for all PET food packaging applications within the Faerch Group.”

In May 2025, Faerch introduced a hot beverage lid made from recycled PET plastic.
