Calling the increase “necessary”, Sonoco said it comes in response to “continued escalation of inflationary pressures on the business”.

The revised pricing will cover shipments from 15 April 2026.

Sonoco EMEA sales and marketing, industrial paper packaging division vice-president Karsten Kemmerling said: “We continue to experience further cost increases in all sectors of our operations and supply chain related to rising costs of energy, natural gas, fuel, chemicals and additives across our supplier base.

“We are forced to pass these cost increases to the market as we are unable to absorb them any further. Supply security and quality remain our primary focus, but we must keep pace with these rising costs.”

Established in 1899, Sonoco makes metal and paper packaging for consumer and industrial use. The company recorded net sales of $7.5bn in 2025 and employs around 22,000 people across 265 sites in 37 countries.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Sonoco reported attributable net income of $332.2m, compared with a $43m loss in the same quarter a year earlier.

Operating profit in the packaging business climbed to $520.2m in the three months to December 2025 from $56.1m a year ago.

For 2025 as a whole, net income reached $1bn, compared with $164m in 2024.
