Aran Group’s MonoFlex bag-in-box solution has received the Gold Award in the “Packaging that Saves Food” category at the 2026 WorldStar Packaging Awards, presented by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) during interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf.
MonoFlex is a mono-material flexible packaging solution for oxygen-sensitive liquid foods. The structure is built from more than 95% polyethylene with a minimized EVOH barrier layer, developed to meet Design for Recycling guidelines for PE streams while delivering the oxygen barrier and mechanical performance that liquid food applications typically require.
The engineering challenge it addresses is well known across the industry. Conventional multi-layer structures provide the required barrier but are not compatible with mainstream PE recycling, while pure mono-PE structures struggle to meet oxygen transmission targets for sensitive liquids. MonoFlex is Aran’s response to that gap, a single-stream-compatible structure that preserves shelf-life performance for the categories it serves.
“The next phase of food packaging is being defined as much by what happens after the product is consumed as by what protects it on the shelf,” said Tal Laufer, CEO of Aran Group. “MonoFlex was developed to hold both ends of that line, barrier performance for the brand owner, recyclability for the system. That’s the standard our customers are increasingly being held to, and it’s the standard we build to.”
The award arrives at a moment when the regulatory framework around recycle-ready packaging is shifting from voluntary commitment to legal obligation across major food and beverage markets. The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) takes effect on August 12, 2026, introducing binding requirements on recyclability, recycled-content thresholds, and Extended Producer Responsibility. In the United States, California’s SB 54, the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act, entered into force on May 1, 2026, alongside a widening set of state EPR programs from Oregon to Maine. Comparable frameworks are advancing across Canada and other jurisdictions.
For Aran, which supplies food and beverage producers across these jurisdictions, MonoFlex is one element of a broader development track focused on mono-material structures across the company’s bag-in-box and aseptic flexible packaging portfolio.
