Melodea Launches PPWR-Ready Flexible Packaging

Melodea Launches PPWR-Ready Flexible Packaging

Melodea, a pioneer in recyclable barrier coating technology for flexible packaging and trusted partner to leading CPG brands and packaging converters worldwide, has announced the commercial launch of MeloPack, an end-to-end flexible packaging solution that takes food brands from specification to production-ready printed rollstock, delivered to their filling line in 30 days.

MeloPack enables food brands to replace multi-layer laminates with recyclable transparent mono-material packaging engineered for demanding food applications, certified for direct food contact under EU EC 10/2011, FDA, and BfR, and without changing existing filling lines, without capital expenditure, and without downtime.

Built on more than a decade of proprietary barrier coating development at Melodea, including the patented MelOx-NGen™ and VBseal™ platforms, MeloPack is the first solution to bring that technology directly to food brands as a fully finished, PPWR-compliant packaging product. While Melodea’s barrier coating platforms serve both paper and plastic packaging applications, MeloPack is a recyclable flexible plastic packaging solution, built around mono-material film structures that meet PPWR recyclability requirements and are certified for direct food contact under EU EC 10/2011, FDA, and BfR.

MeloPack is built on Melodea’s patented MelOx-NGen™ and VBseal™ coating platforms, developed in-house over more than a decade and proven at commercial scale.

While Melodea’s platforms serve both paper and plastic packaging, MeloPack is a recyclable flexible plastic packaging solution available in three mono-material structures: BOPP + MelOx-NGen™ + PP, PE + MelOx-NGen™, and Bio PE + MelOx-NGen™, each delivering high/ultra-high barrier OTR and WVTR performance in a transparent film and delivered as printed rollstock within 30 days. MeloPack is already deployed in commercial food applications, including sifted flour, spices, and avocado spread, in each case without new equipment, capital expenditure, or downtime.

Addressing the August 2026 PPWR Deadline

From August 12, 2026, Regulation EU 2025/40 requires a Declaration of Conformity per SKU for packaging placed on the European market. Multi-material laminates do not meet PPWR recyclability requirements. MeloPack structures are PPWR-compliant and certified for direct food contact under EU EC 10/2011, FDA, and BfR, a combination that most recyclable packaging alternatives on the market have not yet been able to deliver, the company says.
