DS Smith and Versuni to develop packaging for Philips Baristina coffee machine

Sustainable packaging company DS Smith has teamed up with home appliance company Versuni to launch a packaging solution for the new Philips Baristina coffee machine.

Designed to be both recycled and recyclable, the fibre-based packaging features no plastic bags within the box.

The solution offers corrugated buffers with an anti-scratch coating to protect the product.

The design aims to enhance the unboxing experience, with the coffee machine centrally displayed and surrounded by bold visuals and artwork.

The packaging’s performance was assessed using DS Smith’s Circular Design Metrics (CDM) tool, which rates the impact of packaging designs on various sustainability indicators, including renewable content, recyclability, and supply chain optimisation.

This tool helps DS Smith to understand the product’s sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.
