Sappi expands Guard barrier paper range

Sappi Europe, a leading packaging paper manufacturer, is bolstering its portfolio of functional papers with the introduction of three new products: Guard ICC, Guard OHS, and Guard Twist Gloss.

The company said these innovations are designed to offer compelling alternatives to traditional multilayer and plastic packaging materials.

The new papers will be showcased at FACHPACK 2024, Europe’s premier packaging industry event, taking place in Nuremberg, Germany, from September 24-26.

Guard ICC is specifically engineered for ice-cream cones.

This direct food contact paper provides dimensional stability and double-sided protection against water vapour and grease.

Its machine-glazed surface ensures optimal print quality and easy conversion.

Guard OHS is a versatile barrier paper suitable for various food and non-food packaging applications, including flow wraps, sachets, and pouches.

Available in three versions, the company said it offers excellent barrier properties against water vapour, oxygen, and grease while also meeting stringent food safety and toy safety requirements.

Finally, Guard Twist Gloss is designed for the confectionery market, offering high tear strength and a glossy finish.

Its functional coating provides mild grease resistance, making it an ideal choice for twisting applications.

The paper is suitable for direct food contact and offers a recyclable alternative to waxed paper.

These new additions complement Sappi’s existing Guard family of barrier papers, which has established a strong reputation for sustainability and performance.

The company’s commitment to innovation is driven by the increasing demand for eco-friendly packaging solutions.

“The recent addition of our Guard OHS, Guard ICC and Guard Twist products underscores our commitment to developing new, even more efficient and more sustainable solutions for our customers and partners,” said René Köhler, director of Paper & Packaging Solutions at Sappi Europe.
