Aptar unveils new sustainable lightweight disc top closure

Aptar Closures, a dispensing solutions provider, has unveiled a new lightweight disc top closure for various beauty, personal and home care products.

Dubbed 2-inch Disc Top Lite, the closure is the third disc top dispensing solution launched this year.

This launch follows the success of the company’s traditional disc top closures, offering a lighter and low-profile design.

The 2-inch Disc Top Lite weighs 10.2 grams, making it 23% lighter than standard 2-inch disc tops.

This reduction in weight leads to a significant decrease in plastic usage, aligning with the sustainability goals of many brands without compromising on performance.

The closure is made from polypropylene (PP) and is available with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

Designed with a crab claw seal, the 2-inch Disc Top Lite features a 24mm custom thread neck finish and a 3mm x 8.5mm orifice.

It is suitable for medium-to-thick viscosity products, ensuring compatibility with a diverse range of applications.

The sleek design of the closure offers a premium look, available in various frost and gloss finishes, and can be customised with brand logos or messages to increase shelf appeal, according to the company.

Aptar Closures North America product line director Erin Harmon said: “At Aptar Closures, we are constantly seeking ways to innovate while minimising our environmental footprint. The 2” Disc Top Lite is a prime example of how we can deliver on both sustainability and functionality, providing our customers with a premium solution that supports their sustainability initiatives without sacrificing quality.”

In May 2024, Aptar Closures developed the E-Disc Top closure, a new disc top dispensing solution for e-commerce applications.
