Johnnie Walker Launches the World’s Lightest Whisky Glass Bottle

Diago-owned Johnnie Walker recently unveiled the world’s lightest 700ml whisky bottle at the London Design Festival. The glass bottle houses Johnnie Walker Blue and weighs only 180 grams, or about six and ⅓ ounces, without the cap. The new bottle is called “Johnnie Walker Blue Ultra,” and besides being a but of a mouthful, its name alludes to the extreme lightweighting the new design achieved compared to conventional Johnnie Walker bottles.

As an exercise in design and innovation, Johnnie Walker collaborated with outside expert glassmakers to push the boundaries of what’s possible in luxury spirit packaging. The brand saw a trend among luxury categories of spirit packaging going from “heavy” to “delicate” and used that as the inspiration for the exploratory exercise.
