Transcend Packaging and 2M agree on plastic-free coating supply in UK

Transcend Packaging has entered into a multiyear commercial supply agreement with 2M Group of Companies to implement Xampla’s plastic-free Morro coating in the UK.

This move marks a significant step towards sustainable packaging solutions within the domestic quick-service restaurant industry.

2M, a licence partner of Xampla, will manufacture the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-free coating at its facility in Milton Keynes.

Sustainable Packaging Technologies, a new venture launched by 2M in July this year, will be responsible for supplying the Morro coating.

Meanwhile, Transcend Packaging will implement the Morro coating on selected paper boards, offering an affordable and robust grease barrier for quick-service restaurants.

2M Group of Companies chair and CEO Mottie Kessler said: “We are excited to be supporting Transcend Packaging, an organisation that shares our commitment to innovation and fostering collaborative partnerships to deliver the next generation of sustainable packaging solutions.

“This agreement deal represents another milestone that demonstrates our capability for scaling up emerging new technologies, as well as our continued commitment to sustainability.”

Morro materials, derived from natural plant-based polymers, provide businesses with a way to meet regulatory demands and achieve sustainability objectives by reducing plastic usage.

Transcend Packaging corporate affairs director Channing Nuss said: “At Transcend Packaging, we always aim to deliver value for our customers through agile responses to emerging market trends and demands.

“This innovative coating technology enables us to push boundaries and develop more impactful solutions for both our customers and the environment. Transcend Packaging is looking forward to showcasing what’s possible when innovation and agile thinking converge to bring a new range of packaging to the market.”
