Plastic Could Never: How the Sustainable Beauty Brand Aora is Redesigning the Makeup Industry


The beauty industry has an abysmal track record when it comes to the environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a third of landfill waste comes from the beauty industry, and Zero Waste Week reports that, annually, the cosmetics industry produces more than 120 billion units of packaging globally, contributing to the loss of 18 million acres every year. Big yikes!

Given these stats, we shouldn’t commend beauty brands that bother to try to be more sustainable in their production, we should demand it. Mexican beauty brand Aora is holding up their end of the bargain, not just making sustainability an aspect of their brand, but the central force of their entire ethos.
