Shelf Life 037: Cracking Open Pistachios’s Rich History 


In my recent newsletter focused on Gen Z founders, I shared Pistakio’s story. While I love the brand, the product, and the founders, I really admire that they’re on the cusp of something about to explode. 

So, enter the pistachio. 

While pistachios have a long history in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Central Asian cultures, their journey to America is surprisingly relatively recent. I know this isn’t a newsletter on product or brand history, but I’m certainly not a historian, but the pistachio chronology fascinates me. As we see more and more modern pistachio brands popping up, it’s essential to know the nut’s past.
