Trashie introduces Tech Take Back Box for e-waste recycling


Recycling and rewards platform Trashie has unveiled the Tech Take Back Box to simplify the recycling of electronic waste such as phones, laptops, and tablets.

This initiative represents the company’s expansion from textile to technology recycling, addressing the growing issue of e-waste in landfills.

Following the commencement of its textile recycling programme, Trashie has sold more than 500,000 Take Back Bags in the last 12 months.

These bags have been used to collect clothing and other textiles, with 95% of the materials, equating to four million pounds, being diverted from landfills. The success of this programme has set the stage for Trashie’s entry into the technology recycling market.

E-waste is a significant environmental concern, with the average American generating approximately 47lb of e-waste each year.

However, only 12.5% of this e-waste is recycled, leading to 130 million phones being discarded in US landfills annually. Trashie’s Tech Take Back Box aims to offer a more accessible option for responsible e-waste disposal.

The items sent through a Tech Take Back Box in North America will be processed by Trashie, ensuring top security during recycling and refurbishing.

Customers can choose between a small ($20) or medium ($25) Tech Take Back Box, which can be filled with various approved electronic items.

Regardless of the condition of the items, Trashie accepts all e-waste.

Customers receive up to $40 in TrashieCash in return for their sustainable efforts. This currency can be redeemed in Trashie’s rewards marketplace for various perks from brands across the entertainment, dining, fitness, travel, and lifestyle sectors, including Sony, AMC Cinemas, Factor Meals, Sirius XM, and Allbirds.
