Huhtamaki achieves MSCI ESG ‘A’ rating

Huhtamaki, a Finnish packaging company, has been given an ‘A’ rating in the MSCI ESG Rating assessment for the third consecutive year.

This rating, on a scale from AAA to CCC, is a measure of a company’s resilience to long-term, industrywide environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks, as well as its management of those risks in comparison to its peers.

The latest score, published on 5 December 2024, serves as an opportunity for Huhtamaki to reflect on its recent sustainability efforts and prepare for 2025.

In the past year, Huhtamaki has focused on understanding its impact on biodiversity and evaluating the materiality of key sustainability areas for the company.

Acknowledging the ongoing need for progress, Huhtamaki referenced the Conference of Parties 29 discussions in Baku, Azerbaijan, which highlighted the significant gap between current progress rates and global sustainability commitments.

Huhtamaki said that it is committed to continuing to drive change through sustainable packaging solutions and operations.

Last month, Huhtamaki opened a new smooth moulded fibre (SMF) lid production line in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, boosting its supply capacity for the UK market.

The facility enhances Huhtamaki’s global capacity and footprint in SMF products, complementing its existing production sites in Germany, the Netherlands, and the US.

Additionally, the production line features robotics and AI for quality control, alongside an in-house laboratory.
