This printer directly applies designs onto corrugated cardboard, eliminating waste associated with traditional methods such as lithographic lamination.

Additionally, the 1.4m-wide machine offers significant advantages for DS Smith’s customers.

“This new technology not only ensures low energy consumption and maximum production efficiency, but also allows us to deliver high print quality with state-of-the-art printheads and maximum accuracy,” said Albert Forcadell, operations director at DS Smith Packaging South Europe.

The new printer offers several key benefits:

  • Reduced lead times: Faster printing translates to quicker turnaround times for customers.
  • Minimised waste: Efficient single-pass printing reduces material waste when compared to traditional methods.
  • Enhanced flexibility: Customers can create multiple design variations within a single production run, ideal for personalised packaging or short-run orders.

This innovation aligns perfectly with DS Smith’s ‘Now and Next’ sustainability strategy, which emphasises a circular economy and eco-friendly practices.

The company says it is committed to ‘Redefining Packaging for a Changing World’ through its sustainable solutions.

“By meeting the highest sustainability standards, this innovation reinforces our commitment to Redefining Packaging for a Changing World and allows us to be more competitive, better meet our customers’ demands and access new specific market segments,” added Forcadell.

DS Smith claims it has a proven track record of embracing cutting-edge technologies.

The company said it was among the first to introduce preprint inkjet printers for paper rolls in its European facilities.

Additionally, its packaging and display production plants in Portugal and the UK utilise award-winning Nozomi UV LED inkjet printers.

By adopting digital printing solutions, DS Smith demonstrates its commitment to agility, automation, and flexibility.

This allows it to cater to the ever-changing demands of customers across various industries.
