APP Group and Continental Cup unveil compostable cup range

APP Group, based in Indonesia, has teamed up with Continental Cup to launch GC120, a range of compostable and recyclable cups for foodservice applications.

This initiative seeks to meet the rising global demand for sustainable solutions in the foodservice sector.

The GC120 cups are produced using APP Group’s Foopak Bio Natura, offering a per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances-free and food-safe substitute for conventional plastic-lined cups.

This advancement addresses both environmental issues and the changing regulatory landscape within the industry.

The cups incorporate water-based barrier technology.

This development aims to support a circular economy while ensuring high heat resistance and durability for a variety of foodservice uses.

The move reportedly allows food and beverage businesses to transition from traditional plastic-coated cups without sacrificing product safety and effectiveness.

Aimed at enterprises looking for responsible alternatives, the GC120 cups adhere to industry regulations and foster long-term sustainability objectives.

GC120 was initially presented at the National Restaurant Association Show, and its capacity to transform foodservice packaging by offering a scalable, plastic-free option was widely acknowledged, the company said.

APP senior vice-president and Industrial White head Kin Keung Christopher Wong said: “As sustainability standards evolve, businesses need packaging solutions that align with both regulatory changes and consumer expectations.

“With GC120, we’re delivering a high-performance, eco-friendly alternative that helps brands reduce their environmental footprint without sacrificing quality.”

Last month, APP Group launched Sinar Vanda Hi-Brite C1S, a sustainable paperboard packaging solution.
