ChargePoint Technology Opens New Facility in Liverpool

ChargePoint Technology has invested in a first-class manufacturing facility dedicated to single-use products to address an increased demand for its disposable technologies and equipment and to establish the group’s new Flexible Packaging division.

The new 240 square meters site in Speke, Liverpool, boasts a high-tech IS06 cleanroom operating within an ISO9001 quality management system and a temperature and humidity-controlled storage facility for the manufacturing of single-use powder handling assemblies.

The single-use center of excellence significantly increases overall cleanroom capacity, along with capabilities for the design, development and manufacture of high-tech flexible packaging solutions for safe, reliable powder handling while providing sterility assurance and protecting people, products and the environment.

The investment supports a growing demand in the global market for solutions that maintain optimum containment and sterile integrity for closed powder transfer for both development and commercial scale production.

Supporting Product Innovation

The new cleanroom has supported the development of product innovation, including the recent launch of new single-use powder transfer bags, the ChargeBag QF and the ChargeBag XL, adding to  the existing SUT product portfolio of the ChargeBag product line and ChargePoint single-use Split Butterfly Valve connections.

ChargeBag® XL: A 3D powder transfer bag has been developed to increase the range of sizes available to ChargePoint customers for batch transfers in excess of 150L in volume. Using the proprietary HiPure ULP7 film, the new 3D designs take the current range of 2D bags beyond 40L capacity for the same effective and efficient powder handling at enhanced scales.

ChargeBag® QF (Quick-Fill) is designed to speed up the dispensing and transfer of bio-pharmaceutical and chemical powders in high-throughput production environments such as buffer and cell culture media preparation.

To reduce the risk of spillage and waste, it features a large ‘full diameter’ top-opening for fast filling and easy fine-tuning of target weight and a separate, clean process connection port, meaning the bag does not need to be rotated. In addition, its top-opening features a flexible skirt to protect the main bag chamber and filling stand from external contamination during this process, reducing clean-up time.

ChargeBag QF is available in 2D and 3D formats in volumes from 10 to 150L and is easy to implement in new or existing facilities.

Products are distributed to customers worldwide, including the top 50 pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies across the globe.

Shaping the Future of Pharma

The new facility also provides more capacity, equipment, and versatility to quickly turn around samples and trial components and scale up manufacturing to support clients’ needs worldwide.

The cleanroom has also enabled recruitment in the local area, expanded the product portfolio and provided the opportunity to bring product innovation to the market quicker.

Chris Eccles, CEO of ChargePoint Technology, commented: “The new facility has been established as a center of excellence at ChargePoint HQ to place us at the forefront of Single Use technology. We have introduced a dedicated product development and test cell, which marks a significant milestone in ChargePoint’s growth strategy as we expand our operations and evolve our solutions to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs.”
