Palm Republic Delivers a Fanciful Escape to the Tropics

It’s that time of year again when a beach getaway feels like the cure for whatever ails you.

But if the beach isn’t in the stars this summer, rum brand Palm Republic seeks to transport people to the white sand and turquoise waters of an idyllic vacation.

Inspired by the tropics, these premium rums are crafted with a distinctive blend of Caribbean and Latin American ingredients, resulting in unmatched flavor. The brand wanted unique packaging that embodies the island spirit, elevates the user experience, and stands out in the crowded spirits aisle—so they turned to Berlin Packaging and their Studio One Eleven design and innovation division.

The Studio One Eleven team started by conducting a competitive audit of the rum category and developing a range of visual positioning strategies and brand names that represent different ways to communicate the brand’s unique story. Once a name and strategic direction were agreed upon, the Studio’s industrial designers began developing a bespoke bottle to bring the brand to life.

The team landed on a sleek, round glass bottle with squared shoulders and a short neck, which differentiates it from traditional rum packages. Then, they developed an architectural palm tree icon as a sophisticated and straightforward debossment on the side of the bottle and added a debossed band around the bottle to house the label and add dimension.

The Studio’s graphic designers created a simple brandmark that evokes the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean, allowing the product to shine through. A simple belly band contains all the product information with a subtle palm leaf pattern that ties the entire package together.
