Colbert Packaging Receives Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification

Colbert Packaging, the leading Midwest independently-owned paperboard packaging manufacturer, announces receipt of SQF certification from the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI). The certification program offers a rigorous framework that integrates food safety and quality management principles.

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) identifies SQF as an approval process for GFSI qualification and is globally recognized. It aims to help manufacturers and processors demonstrate their ability to produce safe, high-quality food and ancillary products such as packaging that meet regulatory requirements and consumer expectations.

“Our pharmaceutical and consumer products customers have always demanded food-safe, quality secondary packaging, and SQF certification is the preferred path,” says Colbert’s Corporate Quality Systems Manager, Nick Stober. “This certification facilitates continuous improvement through its structured approach.”

To qualify for SQF certification, Colbert Packaging’s quality team completed more than 30 hours of SQF and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Plan) training. They conducted mock audits and GAP analysis to prepare for the rigorous and ongoing audit process. Through that process, the team demonstrated operational compliance and competency in understanding their roles in producing safe, quality products and maintaining a safe environment.

“Achieving SQF certification supports Colbert Packaging’s ongoing commitment to serving our pharmaceutical, OTC healthcare, and consumer goods customers’ demand for high-quality, safe secondary packaging,” said Colbert’s President and COO, John Lackner.

Founded in 1959, Colbert Packaging has grown its repertoire of paperboard packaging solutions into one of the most comprehensive, diverse, and inventive portfolios in the industry, serving pharmaceutical, healthcare, and consumer goods customers. Colbert’s Kenosha, Wisconsin, facility produces offset and flexographic printed folding cartons, pressure-sensitive roll labels, and package inserts. The Elkhart, Indiana, operation includes folding carton production and paper tray forming. Learn more at www.colbertpkg.com.
