Maison Guerlain launches hand creams featuring packaging with Amcor polymer

Maison Guerlain has launched its new Aqua Allegoria hand creams that feature packaging with CleanStream post-consumer recycled polymer from Amcor.

These hand creams are claimed to have been formulated with over 97% natural-origin ingredients, which necessitates packaging that aligns with the brand’s sustainability goals.

Amcor’s CleanStream technology enables the mechanical recycling of household polypropylene (PP) waste into high-purity recycled plastic for sensitive applications.

This process employs advanced AI-driven sorting techniques, including identification, sorting, and decontamination, to ensure the quality of the recycled material.

The use of this recycled polymer in the Aqua Allegoria packaging maintains the required standards for aesthetics, product protection, and functionality.

The production of the bottle and cap took place at two of Amcor’s facilities located in France, providing a complete packaging solution for the brand.

The design of the bottle draws inspiration from the hexagonal structure of a honeycomb, symbolising the bee, which has represented Maison Guerlain since 1853.

Manufactured from PP, the bottle is available in three colours to differentiate between the product variants. Its multilayer design ensures the creams’ quality is preserved.

The bottle and the cap are coated with a matte colourless varnish. As it is made entirely from PP, the bottle is recyclable in European regions that have the necessary recycling facilities.

Amcor France sales director Marine Sueur said: “The beauty sector has the challenge of reconciling what were once considered the opposing requirements of luxury and sustainability.

“CleanStream was developed to bridge this gap with a high-quality polymer that can match the characteristics of virgin material.”
