Voith launches new MasterJet 4Tec headbox technology

Voith, a technology company, has unveiled its latest innovation in papermaking technology, the MasterJet 4Tec headbox.

This fourth-generation advancement is already making waves in the industry with its significant contributions to both operating efficiency and paper quality.

The MasterJet 4Tec’s enhanced jet quality ensures a flawless, streak-free sheet formation and offers a notable reduction in energy consumption.

The headbox is critical to the papermaking process, greatly influencing the final quality of the paper.

Voith’s MasterJet 4Tec improves fibre distribution and achieves over a 30% reduction in streaks within the jet.

These improvements lead to superior formation values and an impeccable visual appearance of the finished product.

Voith Paper product manager for Headbox Markus Haeussler said: “The fan pump contributes significantly to the electrical energy consumption of a paper machine, and this depends a lot on the headbox. This is why we have put a high priority on reducing the energy consumption of the MasterJet 4Tec”.

In terms of cost savings, the MasterJet 4Tec stands out with its energy-efficient design.

On a 6m-wide paper machine running at 1,000m per minute with a flow rate of 80,000 litres per minute, and an electricity cost of €0.12 ($0.125) per kilowatt hour, these advancements could yield annual savings of approximately €103,000.

Brigl & Bergmeister, renowned for its label papers, endorses the performance of the new headbox.

The MasterJet 4Tec includes an EdgeMaster feature, which provides easy and intuitive edge control on the fourdrinier wire that can be adjusted or swivelled upwards during wire changes.

Khanna Paper Mills managing director and promoter Rahul Khanna said: “From the beginning, the performance of the MasterJet 4Tec on our PM 4 [machine] has been impressive. The headbox delivers superior results after fast stabilisation on the PM 4.

“This cutting-edge technology from Voith and the positive experience by the whole team have encouraged us to place a repeat order with Voith for another MasterJet 4Tec for our PM 5, one of the widest and fastest paper machines in India to date.”
