Ciner Glass secures $583.1m to build new container glass facility in Belgium

Ciner Glass has secured financing worth €504m ($583.1m) to establish a new container glass production facility in Lommel, Belgium.

This financing package consists of €252m in export credit agency-backed facilities, supported by UK Export Finance, Servizi Assicurativi del Commercio Estero, and SERV, alongside an additional €252m in commercial facilities, partly guaranteed by Gigarant.

The consortium of commercial lenders includes BNP Paribas and BNP Paribas Fortis, which are acting as agent and coordinator, respectively, along with KBC Bank, MUFG Bank, Belfius Bank, DHB Bank, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, Banco BPM, and ENBD Denizbank.

The new facility will be equipped with two high-capacity furnaces, each capable of producing 650 tonnes (t) of glass daily, which will supply eight production lines.

Once operational, the plant is expected to achieve a total production capacity of 1,300t per day and create approximately 500 direct jobs.

Construction at the Lommel site is progressing rapidly, with the facility anticipated to commence operations in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, according to the company.

Ciner Glass CEO Gokhan Şen said: “This investment is a significant milestone for Ciner Glass and a testament to our long-term vision for sustainable industrial growth in Europe.

“We are proud to bring one of the most advanced container glass production facilities to Belgium, creating hundreds of jobs and delivering high-quality, environmentally responsible products to our customers.”

Last month, Ciner Glass hosted its European partners at the site, including Lahti Glass Technology, Bottero, TecoGlas, E2Pack, and Tiama, to review construction developments and coordinate future project phases.

During this visit, the teams also established payment terms for the second furnace, which is set to be operational in 2027, allowing the plant to reach its full capacity.

Ciner Glass aims to minimise its environmental impact by producing lighter, quality container glass with reduced energy consumption.

Additionally, the company has begun recruitment efforts at the Lommel site, welcoming its first new employees as part of its initiative to create job opportunities for the local community.
