Radienz Living launches laundry pod packaging


Contract manufacturing solutions provider Radienz Living has launched what it claims to be the first child-resistant recyclable packaging solution for laundry pods.

The innovation, dubbed CleanClose with ChildBlock, has been developed in collaboration with consumer packaging solutions provider Graphic Packaging International.

Radienz said it is the first of its kind to be certified under US 16 CFR 1700.20, offering a recyclable alternative to traditional flexible plastic packaging.

The CleanClose packaging, made from 50% recycled paperboard, is also prequalified as ‘Widely Recyclable’ by How2Recycle.

The packaging is designed to ensure child safety while meeting consumer demands for recyclable options. This follows the previous introduction of a recyclable club-size pouch that significantly reduced plastic use by 80%.

Its kerbside recyclability represents a major step forward in an industry where flexible plastics have been the norm. The packaging is designed to be easy for adults to use, with a secure ‘click’ closure that reassures consumers of its safety.

Radienz Living CEO Ernesto Levy said: “This paperboard pack represents the next chapter in laundry pod packaging – safe, kerbside recyclable, and built for the realities of today’s supply chains. From a supply chain standpoint, the CleanClose packaging offers numerous benefits. It is delivered flat, enhancing warehousing and shipping efficiency, and is more space-efficient than traditional plastic pouches.

Additionally, it has been top-load tested to 400lbs, making it suitable for self-palletisation.

The CleanClose design also addresses product preservation concerns by maintaining pod integrity and efficacy, which can be compromised in flexible or inadequately sealed packaging.

This February, Graphic Packaging introduced the reengineered Cold&Go insulated paper cold cup, addressing the challenges faced by quick-service restaurants and cafés in serving cold beverages.
