Valmet to supply fine papermaking lines to Chinese customer

Finnish company Valmet has secured an order to supply two fine papermaking lines, complete with related automation systems and services, to a Chinese customer.

The lines are designed to produce uncoated woodfree grades, with the commencement of operations projected between late 2026 and early 2027.

The deal was recorded in Valmet’s second-quarter 2025 orders received, but the financial details remain undisclosed.

This agreement builds on a history of collaboration between Valmet and the Chinese customer, as Valmet has previously supplied various other technologies, including complete paper and board-making lines.

Valmet executive vice-president and China chair Xiangdong Zhu said: “Both new, wide, high-speed paper machines feature some of the most advanced technologies available on the market, ensuring high capacity and performance.

“These orders are very important to us and indicate that the technologies we have delivered to the same customer before have performed well. This is a highly significant customer, as well as a strategic partner for Valmet in China and we are pleased to continue close collaboration with them in the future.”

In line with its strategic evolution, as of 1 July 2025, Valmet has restructured its financial reporting. The company now operates under two principal segments: Biomaterial Solutions and Services, and Process Performance Solutions.

The Biomaterial Solutions segment delivers technology solutions and services for the entire life cycle of customers in the pulp, paper, and energy sectors.

Meanwhile, the Process Performance Solutions segment focuses on providing flow control technologies and automation solutions to a diverse array of industries worldwide.

This June, Valmet secured a furnace upgrade and a long-term service agreement from Eren Holding for Shotton Mill in the UK. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
