Cracker Barrel Drops New Logo Amidst ‘Outrage’



Meet the new boss. It’s same as the old boss.

Of course, we speak of Uncle Herschel. You know, the guy on the Cracker Barrel logo whose name no one knew last week until he was jettisoned from the restaurant chain’s logo via a highly contentious redesign.

Yesterday, after relentless dogpiling from creative types on LinkedIn who are growing increasingly comfortable with outsourcing their tone of voice to ChatGPT, not to mention every conservative on Twitter railing against its “soulless” update, Cracker Barrel finally backed down and said they would stick with their original logo. The brand moved through the usual phases of a “bad” redesign, from nobly defending it to publicly decrying they wouldn’t back down while listening to Tom Petty, and eventually, acceptance, saying they “could have done a better job,” and then finally killing it off and course-correcting.
