Avery Dennison’s AD CleanFlake gets RecyClass Technology Approval for PET recycling

Avery Dennison’s AD CleanFlake technology has secured RecyClass Technology Approval for the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling stream.

The radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag manufacturer had received a similar approval for the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) stream in October 2024.

At the Labelexpo event being held in Barcelona, Spain, from 16-19 September 2025, Avery Dennison will showcase how AD CleanFlake labels can be cleanly released from both PET and HDPE flakes during the recycling process.

AD CleanFlake technology is said to deliver adhesion, clarity, and conversion capabilities, along with strong print quality and improved productivity, owing to the TC7007 topcoat.

This empowers brand proprietors to craft packaging that captures attention on the shelf.

Those utilising these substrates can certify their packaging, with the prospect of achieving an A-class rating, aiding them in preparing for the Plastic Packaging Waste Regulations and possibly diminishing their extended producer responsibility levies.

The AD CleanFlake technology has received recognition from several authoritative bodies, including the European Pet Bottle Platform, Institut Cyclos-HTP, the Association of Plastic Recyclers, and now RecyClass.

In June, Avery Dennison unveiled an RFID tag that became the first to receive the Association of Plastic Recyclers Design for Recyclability endorsement.

The company highlighted that its label merges seamlessly with the PET recycling infrastructure in North America, setting a fresh benchmark for the sector.

It is reported that the label was developed by fusing its distinctive CleanFlake adhesive technology with its knowledge in RFID.
