The deal includes the purchase of certain software and firmware assets of US-based RGP.

RGP has been a long-standing partner of X-Rite. The collaboration has facilitated scanning automation, helping converters upgrade presses cost-effectively – lowering waste, automating colour control and minimising downtime.

The latest deal formalises this alliance, allowing it to offer a fully integrated press automation suite.

X-Rite president Jeff McKee stated: “By bringing the Rutherford products into the X-Rite family, we’re delivering a smarter, more connected press automation solution that directly addresses the evolving needs of packaging converters.

“This acquisition allows us to serve our customers with greater efficiency, reliability, and innovation, helping them stay competitive in a fast-changing market.”

The integration of RGP’s closed-loop technology with X-Rite’s scanning solutions results in quicker job turnover, reduced operational costs and streamlined workflows for converters.

RGP owner Jay Rutherford stated: “We’re excited to officially join X-Rite and continue building on the strong foundation we’ve created together.

“Our shared commitment to innovation and customer success will drive the next generation of press automation.”

In September 2025, Sun Chemical and X-Rite unveiled new additions to the PantoneLIVE digital colour ecosystem to enhance colour predictability and consistency for metal packaging within the beverage industry.

The colour libraries seek to enable precise representation of Pantone and brand colours on two-piece aluminium cans.
