Butterfly Cannon and The Fire Horse Ring in the Lunar New Year For Highland Park

An object in motion stays in motion, but what about packaging in motion?

For this Lunar New Year limited edition, Highland Park teamed up with Butterfly Cannon to create packaging that transforms motion into design, capturing the restless winds and shifting skies. Vertical cut lines across the magenta box reveal a horse illustration that appears and disappears as the sleeve slides, turning the act of opening the bottle into a kinetic visual experience. The illustration itself is constructed through layered line work, subtly referencing the Year of the Fire Horse while keeping the imagery modern and restrained.

The color palette plays a clever role here, blending the celebratory symbolism of Lunar New Year reds with cooler northern shades that nod back to the whisky’s Orkney origins. This balance between cultural celebration and geographic storytelling gives the pack a global perspective while remaining anchored to place. It’s memorable design invites collectors and new whisky drinkers alike to interact with the bottle before it’s even opened.
