SÜDPACK Highlights Innovative Pouch Packaging for Grated Cheese, Fruit Purées

SÜDPACK Highlights Innovative Pouch Packaging for Grated Cheese, Fruit Purées

At this year’s interpack, two recyclable pouch concepts from SÜDPACK’s versatile CarbonLite® film family will take center stage at the SN booth (A61 in Hall 6): a PurePE stand-up pouch with a zipper closure for grated cheese and a PP-based stand-up pouch with an integrated spout for fruit purée. Both materials are already designed to meet the PPWR recyclability requirements for 2030, making them a future-ready solution. For pouch production, SN Maschinenbau will present its high-performance FLH 300 hygienic machine, along with the new HSF 100 spouted pouch packaging machine, designed for small to medium output volumes and fast product changeovers.

“Processing recyclable packaging materials is more complex and more demanding than working with conventional materials, which makes closer collaboration with the packaging material manufacturer essential,” explains Felix Eberhardi, Marketing Team Leader at SN Maschinenbau.

For this reason, the family-owned, owner-managed company SME SN Maschinenbau works closely with film manufacturer SÜDPACK, as well as other partners. Both companies are committed to the responsible use of resources and food, are highly innovative and have set their course for the future at an early stage. SÜDPACK has been developing pioneering packaging films for a wide range of applications for more than six decades, while SN offers customized material and product trials at its unique Technology Center to validate new packaging materials against customer requirements and machine specifications.

CarbonLite® Doypack PurePE for grated cheese – running on the SN FLH 300 packaging machine

SÜDPACK’s innovative pouch concept delivers above all outstanding recyclability and reliable performance. Designed as a PE mono-material solution, it can be returned to the appropriate material loop after use. The films showcased at interpack offer stability comparable to conventional film laminates despite their low thickness of just 85 μm. Thanks to tailored barrier properties, there is no need to compromise on product or aroma protection either. A practical PE-based zipper system enables convenient opening and reclosing of the pack. Thanks to the films’ high thermal resistance, it can be integrated reliably and with full process stability into flat or stand-up pouches.

For the production of stand-up pouches, SN Maschinenbau will showcase the FLH 300 at its booth – a horizontal pouch packaging machine ideally suited for products such as grated cheese. The model features a hygienic design and a rotary system for forming, filling and sealing both conventional and recyclable flat and stand-up pouches from reels (FFS). Its hygienic design ensures the machine meets the strictest requirements for food packaging and ease of cleaning. Depending on the product properties and pouch size, output rates of up to 270 pouches per minute can be achieved. Format changeovers are quick and easy, with the process largely automated and controlled directly via the machine’s control panel (HMI).

HSF 100 packaging machine & CarbonLite® spouted pouch PurePP for fruit purées

For cost-efficient and highly flexible in-house production of high-quality flat or stand-up pouches with a center spout – and for filling liquids at small to medium output rates – SN’s HSF 100 intermittent-motion rotary machine is the ideal choice, delivering up to 70 pouches per minute. As with the larger, higher-output models in SN’s Spout Series, separating pouch production from filling helps prevent contamination, especially in the spout sealing area. Filling the pouch through the spout also allows a high fill level. This cost-effective machine concept achieves production volumes of up to 4,200 spouted pouches per hour. Its compact footprint also makes the HSF 100 highly versatile in confined production environments, while its simple and reliable control system is an additional benefit for operators.

For its trade fair presentation, SN selected a 121 μm PurePP spouted pouch as the packaging concept in coordination with SÜDPACK. This film is also part of the renowned film manufacturer’s CarbonLite® product family and can be equipped with the required oxygen and water vapor barrier properties as well as UV protection. The film, spout and pouch packaging machine were perfectly matched within an integrated system by the three manufacturers – SÜDPACK, MENSHEN, and SN Maschinenbau. This ensures stable processing as well as excellent seal integrity and burst-pressure resistance in the filled pouches, even in demanding applications such as hot-filling or pasteurization.

Another advantage: The spout solution has been certified as 96% recyclable by the cyclos-HTP institute. According to an LCA analysis conducted by Sphera, the carbon footprint of the CarbonLite® PurePP film is 57% lower overall compared to a conventional PET-aluminum film solution.
