Reconomy expands US presence with Vermilion acquisition

Circular economy specialist Reconomy has announced the strategic acquisition of Vermilion, a post-consumer product take-back company in the US.

This move is set to expand Reconomy’s capabilities and customer base in the US.

Vermilion, established in 1976 and based in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, is known for its proprietary technology platform and patented reverse logistics packaging and kiosk collection system.

The company specialises in tracking and tracing materials from collection to reuse or recycling complements Reconomy’s tech-driven, people-powered approach.

The acquisition is poised to enhance Reconomy’s Comply Loop division, which services over 15,000 global customers, including Fortune 500 brands.

Vermilion’s take-back system and technology will add specialist capabilities to Reconomy’s growing portfolio in the take-back solutions market.

Vermilion operates several key brands, including ASC, which manufactures equipment for the safe collection of post-consumer materials, and ARXG, which offers customised design, production, and end disposition solutions. Its PPM division is a full-service marketing company.

Following Reconomy’s first US acquisition of Lincoln Waste Solutions on 12 August 2024, the Vermilion transaction further strengthens Reconomy’s North American presence.

Lincoln Waste Solutions, headquartered in Windsor, Connecticut, offers a full-service management approach to waste and recycling.

Reconomy’s North American operations also include the Reverse Logistics Group, another Comply Loop brand, which provides technology for kerbside recycling in Ontario, Canada, and services for producers to meet their extended producer responsibility compliance obligations.

Reconomy CEO Guy Wakeley said: “Following the recent acquisition of Lincoln, this transaction is another important strategic milestone for Reconomy as we accelerate our growth plans in the US.

“It brings new customers, technology and specialist capabilities in the fast-growing take-back solutions market to our existing Comply operations in North America. We welcome the Vermilion team to Reconomy and look forward to working closely with them to achieve our mission of enabling the circular economy.”
