Seda North America launches compostable cold cups with EcoFit lids

Seda North America, part of the Seda International Packaging Group, has announced the launch of its compostable Double Wall cold cups and EcoFit lids in North America.

This packaging solution is designed to comply with evolving sustainable packaging legislation that requires more sustainable alternatives.

Crafted from Biodegradable Product Institute-certified renewable materials, the compostable Double Wall cold cups feature a unique patented air gap design.

This design keeps beverages colder for longer periods and reduces condensation, providing a tactile experience over single-wall cups that are made from plastic and paper.

Seda developed the EcoFit lid with the same compostable paperboard used for manufacturing the cups.

Designed as a sustainable alternative for both hot and cold beverages, the lid offers secure and leak-resistant solutions.

The EcoFit lid, made from 100% renewable paperboard, allows for up to ten-colour printing, offering brands enhanced marketing opportunities.

A Seda gate-to-gate environmental screening revealed that the EcoFit Lid has significant environmental benefits, including lower water and energy consumption during production compared to moulded fibre lids.

Brands across North America in the coffee, restaurant, and convenience store sectors are adopting these innovations to align with their sustainability goals and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint in the packaging supply chain.

Seda North America managing director Simohammed Jarfaoui said: “Our new compostable Double Wall cold cups and EcoFit Lids reflect Seda’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

“We are proud to offer products that not only meet but exceed the increasingly strict legal requirements. By significantly reducing water consumption and CO₂ [carbon dioxide] emissions, our EcoFit Lid sets a new standard for sustainable beverage packaging.”

The Double Wall cold cups complement the Double Wall line, developed and patented by Seda in the early 2000s.

Designed for hot beverages, the previous Double Wall line was introduced by Seda North America in the US market in the early 2010s.
