PAPACKS and element6 Dynamics JV to launch RENW in US

Germany-based plastic-free packaging solutions provider PAPACKS has partnered with biobased solution developer element6 Dynamics to launch their joint venture (JV) project in the US, RENW.

RENW offers an industrial hemp-based packaging solution for brands. It is intended to eliminate plastic and decrease deforestation in products and packaging while also nurturing the domestic industrial hemp market.

The partnership leverages more than 75 patents and two decades of material science advancements, positioning RENW to assist companies from various sectors in meeting regulatory standards, reducing environmental impact, and responding to evolving consumer preferences.

RENW’s technology employs a whole-plant approach from industrial hemp and a proprietary sulphur-free process that reduces waste and carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.

Its products are not only biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable but also provide an economically feasible and eco-friendly alternative for brands to phase out plastics and lessen reliance on tree-based resources in their supply chains.

The JV is also dedicated to supporting rural economies by partnering with US farmers to integrate industrial hemp as a rotational crop.

The parties plan to construct ten bioregional manufacturing facilities, each anticipated to generate approximately 50 direct jobs, thereby contributing to domestic economic revitalisation.

RENW and element6 Dynamics CEO Kimberly Kovacs said: “Our mission is to revolutionise the packaging industry by providing solutions that don’t force brands to choose between environmental responsibility and cost-effectiveness.

“We have seen a growing number of leading brands like Patagonia, Veuve Clicquot and VW embrace industrial hemp and RENW will help other companies follow that lead.”
