GrasiKraft: a game-changer in sustainable void fill

Ranpak has introduced GrasiKraft, an innovative paper-based void fill that combines grass fibres with recycled paper to meet the rising demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

Partnering with Creapaper, Ranpak has successfully made grass paper a mainstream product, marking a world-first in the industry.

“GrasiKraft paper represents the output of a significant amount of testing and research to determine a suitable alternative fibre source that could be used in Ranpak’s paper products,” said David Murgio, Ranpak’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “Diversifying our fibre sources in a sustainable manner is good for business and the planet.”

GrasiKraft integrates natural grass fibres for durability while showcasing the unique, speckled look of its grass-based composition, an aesthetic feature that appeals to brands aiming to signal eco-friendly values.

A step forward in sustainable sourcing

The grass fibres used in GrasiKraft come from renewable sources like the margins of European agricultural lands, which can be harvested multiple times per year, making it a highly sustainable choice.

Grass also consumes less water in the manufacturing process, reducing its overall environmental footprint. These fibres have proven strong enough to meet the demands of Ranpak’s FillPak converters, maintaining the performance expected of traditional kraft paper while incorporating a unique tactile element.

Stéphane Doerane, Logistic Services Manager at Multipharma, remarked on the change since adopting GrasiKraft: “We’ve been using GrasiKraft in our packaging for a few months, and it not only meets our performance standards but has a softer feel, which has led to positive customer feedback. Our switch to grass-based paper reflects our dedication to the environment and enhances our customers’ unboxing experience.”

Embracing a circular economy

The introduction of GrasiKraft underlines Ranpak’s commitment to a circular economy by supporting recyclable, biodegradable packaging materials.

As the push for sustainable options grows worldwide, Ranpak’s focus on renewable fibres positions the company at the forefront of the movement toward reducing single-use plastic and non-recyclable packaging waste.

By incorporating new, renewable sources like grass, GrasiKraft aligns with the needs of companies and consumers focused on eco-friendly practices.

GrasiKraft represents a step towards a diversified, sustainable packaging future that not only meets practical requirements but also strengthens brand identity through visible, natural elements, enhancing the consumer experience with every unboxing.
