UFP Industries acquires pallets manufacturer C&L Wood Products

UFP Industries, through its affiliate UFP Packaging, has completed the acquisition of the assets of C&L Wood Products, a manufacturer of pallets and mulch based in Hartselle, Alabama, US.

C&L Wood Products reported trailing 12-month sales through November 2024 amounting to $24.8m.

The acquisition will see C&L Wood Products becoming a part of UFP Packaging’s PalletOne business unit, which operates as a machine-built pallet manufacturer in the US.

UFP Packaging PalletOne executive vice-president Justin Elwell said: “The addition of C&L expands PalletOne’s geographic footprint, giving us new access to high-volume pallet production in northern Alabama.

“In addition, we see opportunities to expand C&L’s operations to serve a wider range of customers [with] our elite PalletOne products.”

As per the terms of the deal, C&L Wood Products’ president Henry Bowman and operations manager Frank Janek will continue their roles within the company.

Bowman said: “We’re excited to join the leading packaging solution provider in the US. Both companies in this deal have great teams, and we are looking forward to bringing them together to create more wins through innovation and growth for our customers, our company and our employees.”

C&L Wood Products’ history dates back to 1975, it was then taken over by Henry and Blythe Bowman in 1996. At the time of acquisition, the company had a modest scale with ten employees and revenue under $1m.

Under Henry’s leadership, C&L grew its operations, incorporating new machinery and additional facilities.

Today, the company boasts a workforce of approximately 115 employees and caters to a diverse customer base within a 150-mile radius.

Last November, UFP Packaging opened its new packaging design and development centre in Newnan, Georgia, US.
