Dr. Bronner’s and Wonderfil Show Us What a Refillable Future Could Look Like in Retail

When it comes to plastic waste, no one silver bullet will just make it all go away. Save for a federal EPR law on the books and brands like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo actually, you know, trying, it will take a lot of folks throwing plenty of spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.

And maybe one of the best methods is giving folks more refillable options during their weekly jaunt to the grocery store.

Case in point, last October, fine print soapy connoisseurs Dr. Bronner’s recently unveiled refill stations at five Whole Foods locations in California. By abstaining from buying a new bottle, refilling their own vessel will help consumers save up to 13%. Not only can you mix scents (fun, but also potentially weird), but you can also refill any container you want. The refill stations can precisely calculate how much product you dispense in real-time, and similar to filling up your car at the gas station, folks will know how much the refill will cost them as the product fills the bottle. And, if you need a container to schlep all of that soap home, well, they have a few post-consumer recycled ones located at the refill station that are available for purchase.
