Sidel launches 100% rPET bottle base for still products


Sidel has launched a new packaging solution designed to accommodate high-speed production while integrating 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) for still products such as water and juices.

The company noted that its new bottle base, StarLITE-R STILL, features patented technology that enhances material stretching and distribution, optimises venting for shaping ease, and includes an efficient cooling circuit suitable for rPET.

The solution is said to reduce blowing pressure by up to 20%, leading to significant energy savings and reduced production costs without compromising on quality.

Consequently, Sidel’s latest offering promises a carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) reduction of approximately 51 tonnes (t).

The solution is designed to be retrofitted onto existing production lines smoothly. Sidel emphasises that the base maintains its shape and does not deform or break, ensuring the integrity of the bottle throughout production, storage, and transportation.

According to Sidel, the new base is particularly reliable during high-speed production due to its efficient cooling process, which is crucial when working with rPET materials that are typically processed at higher temperatures.

The solution is compatible with round, square-round, and rectangular-shaped bottles. It can also be used in single or multi-serve sizes from 250ml up to 2.5 litres.

The new bottle base supports single-serve production rates of up to 2,700 bottles per hour per machine. In addition, the solution supports multi-serve rates of up to 2,400 bottles per hour per machine. 

Sidel Packaging Innovations manager Mikael Derrien said: “Mainstream food and beverage manufacturers are seeking designs that range from simple, lightweight options to more aesthetic shapes with optimised weights, yet all compatible with high-speed production.

“They aim to reduce production costs through lightweighting, lower blowing pressures, and reduced energy consumption, while also striving to minimise their carbon footprint in response to regulatory pressures and consumer demand.”

Earlier this month, Sidel enhanced CR Beverage’s production capacity in China by providing three high-speed aseptic packaging lines.
