Harpak-ULMA unveils ARTIC SS Chevron for medical packaging

Harpak-ULMA has unveiled the ARTIC SS Chevron, an advanced horizontal flow wrap machine tailored for medical and pharmaceutical packaging applications.

The company claims that its system is engineered to optimise film usage while maintaining sterility, accessibility and enabling packaging efficiency.

This technology is suited for medical device manufacturers who are under constant pressure to manage costs without compromising on packaging quality or product safety, the company said.

The machine’s ability to operate without premade bags presents a “cost-effective” alternative, granting producers enhanced control over their packaging processes.

ARTIC SS Chevron can handle low-height medical items such as bandages and wound care products.

The machine’s quick changeover capabilities, facilitated by a straightforward wheel adjustment, minimises downtime and bolsters productivity.

The ARTIC SS Chevron’s single-film design not only reduces the inventory of materials needed but also cuts down on validation expenses.

In medical settings, the process of validating materials can be both expensive and time-consuming. However, ARTIC SS Chevron removes the need to validate an additional film, thereby saving both time and resources.

The machine offers various seal options, including Chevron, Sine Wave, and Straight-pack styles.

It incorporates integrated Tyvek webbing, which is a more economical and eco-friendly sterilisation solution compared to using full sheet.

ULMA Packaging  product manager Nick Kirichkow said: “Right-sized packaging” is a key focus in today’s medical packaging market.

“When people think of sustainability, they usually focus on ‘recycling’ – but that’s just part of the story.

“Reducing waste throughout the production process by using as little material as possible – including essentially right-sizing the package design – can dramatically impact a producer’s ability to achieve sustainability goals.”

In January 2025, Harpak-ULMA launched the FM400 horizontal flow packaging machine for high-speed modified-atmosphere packaging in fresh food.
