Valmet secures order for food-grade packaging project in China

Finnish company Valmet has secured a contract to supply its automation and quality management solutions to Shandong Jintianhe Paper in China.

Under the contract, Valmet will provide the company with its DNA distributed control system, featuring built-in machine condition monitoring, its IQ quality control system (QCS), and a coat weight profiler.

This initiative is set to bolster Shandong Jintianhe Paper’s production of food-grade packaging materials.

While the value of the order has not been disclosed, the new systems are expected to deliver ‘high-quality’ production control for the customer’s folding boxboard machine.

The order, which was included in Valmet’s fourth-quarter (Q4) 2024 orders received, is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2025.

Valmet Automation Systems business line sales manager Richard Sui said: “We are very grateful to Shandong Jintianhe Paper for choosing Valmet’s automation system.

“We will provide the most advanced paper machine automation systems and technologies and form an experienced project team to ensure successful delivery.”

Shandong Jintianhe Paper, established in 2022, is a subsidiary of Shandong Tianhe Paper, which specialises in the production of various paper forms and mechanical pulp.

Shandong Jintianhe Paper chair Xu Zhenli said: “We are developing high-end coated white cardboard for food packaging to meet the demand and people’s aspirations for a better life.

“Regarding the automation system for coated white cardboard machines, we trust Valmet’s technology, especially their comprehensive know-how in processes, services, and automation technology.

“It will help our new project to be successfully put into operation and achieve our sustainable development strategy.”

Earlier this month, Brazil’s Grupo Penha announced that it would install an advanced QCS from Valmet at its Itapira plant in São Paulo state.
