Mondi, a global packaging and paper company, has announced a new addition to its sustainable premade plastic bags portfolio, FlexiBag Reinforced.
This mono-polyethylene (PE)-based bag range is designed to be recyclable and features improved mechanical properties, including superior puncture resistance, stiffness, and sealability.
The FlexiBag Reinforced range contributes to a circular economy, being recyclable where PE film collection and recycling systems exist.
Mondi developed the packaging in-house using its integrated value chain, enabling customisation to meet the specific needs of different customers.
The bags offer adjustable barrier protection, providing medium to high barriers against fat, oxygen, and moisture, which helps in maintaining the freshness of the contents.
This makes the packaging particularly suitable for the pet food industry.

Mondi is proactively addressing future regulatory demands by allowing the inclusion of a customised percentage of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in the FlexiBag Reinforced solution.
This approach reduces the reliance on virgin plastics and promotes material efficiency by keeping materials in circulation.
Mondi Consumer Flexibles COO Dirk Gabriel said: “Mondi recognises the increasing emphasis on PCR materials driven by future regulative requirements and as a market leader in sustainable pet food packaging, we are taking every effort to secure sufficient upstream supply of PCR material for our customers.
“By working closely with our partners along the value chain we can understand the unique requirements of each customer and adapt accordingly to material efficiency and recyclability.”
Mera, a German family-owned pet food producer, has successfully adopted FlexiBag Reinforced for its 10kg vegan dry dog food packs, which contain 35% PCR content.
According to Mondi, the new packaging solution was compatible with Mera’s existing machinery.
Last month, Mondi unveiled ProVantage SmartKraft Brown and White, its new containerboard grades that blend fresh and recycled fibres.
