Reichmuth Infrastructure, representing its SFDR Article 9 fund, has committed to financing the development of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling plant in Ellesmere Port, England.
The plant will be built in partnership with Enviroo, a company with expertise in PET recycling, and will incorporate an advanced process that effectively isolates PET plastic from other waste materials via a refined washing technique.
This is followed by a high-end extrusion process, producing premium recycled PET granulate.
The resulting material is suitable for use in food packaging and can be blended with virgin PET for bottle production or used independently.
The PET recycling plant will be based within the Plastic Park at Protos, a key energy and resource management centre in the North West of England.
A significant aspect of the investment plan is the establishment of fixed supply and purchase agreements for a substantial portion of the plant’s output.
Reichmuth & Co infrastructure head Stefan Hasenböhler said: “The recycling of PET bottles is an excellent example of our investment approach in sustainable infrastructure.
“The investment combines stable long-term returns with the support of sustainability goals, fits perfectly into our Article 9 fund and complements our exposure to battery storage, solar projects and clean logistics solutions.
“Through these cooperations, we are creating a genuine recycling loop from bottle to bottle.”
Construction of the facility is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2025, with operations set to begin towards the end of 2026.
