Circular Materials, a national non-profit producer responsibility organisation, has launched a beverage cup recycling programme in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Introduced on Wednesday (3 July), the programme allows Toronto residents to recycle both hot and cold paper-based and plastic-lined beverage cups from their homes and other eligible locations.
The initiative extends to single and multi-residential homes, long-term care homes, and schools within the city.
The pilot is expected to significantly cut down the waste generated from beverage cups and support the development of proactive recycling management and efficiency enhancement across the province.
This programme is the first step in a plan to integrate these materials into recycling systems across all Ontario municipalities by 2026.
Circular Materials is the administrator of Ontario’s common collection system. It is also in charge of the new system’s operations for Blue Box materials.
