SIG InnoVentures and Optima invest in PulPac

Packaging innovation company SIG InnoVentures and packaging technology company Optima will become part of PulPac’s shareholder group through a strategic investment.

Both companies bring experience and backing to support the fibre-based packaging approach of PulPac, a provider of Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) technology.

SIG chief markets officer Christoph Wegener said: “We see great potential in PulPac and Dry Molded Fiber. We believe PulPac and Dry Molded Fiber have an important role to play in meeting the growing demand for ever more responsible solutions.”

The investment highlights continued support for PulPac’s DMF process, which is aimed at replacing single-use plastics.

This update comes after PulPac and Optima formalised a partnership in September 2024 to develop sustainable caps and closures made from fibre.

PulPac CEO Linus Larsson Green said: “Over the past year, we’ve achieved significant progress with our technology, expanding its range of applications and opening new possibilities that have attracted major players seeking scalable, eco-friendly solutions across additional packaging categories.

“Having SIG and Optima come on board as shareholders strengthens our capacity to meet this demand. SIG, with its extensive range of packaging solutions, has the reach to create a significant market shift, while Optima’s expertise in packaging and bespoke machinery for Dry Moulded Fiber helps us accelerate the implementation of our technology on a global scale.”

Last October, PulPac collaborated with Danish confectionery brand LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW, for a DMF outer shell for the 2024 LARGE ADVENT CALENDAR.

The project used PulPac’s DMF technology to make custom, deep-drawn designs that maintain a premium look and feel.
