Mondi launches eco-friendly paper bag for humidity-sensitive goods

Mondi has launched a sustainable, high-barrier paper bag intended to safeguard humidity-sensitive products.

The bag, dubbed PaperPlus Bag Advanced, significantly reduces plastic content while ensuring high performance in moisture protection.

Tailored for powdery items, the bag also promotes recyclability.

This bag incorporates a slim 20-micron (µm) film to offer moisture protection for delicate products.

When compared to conventional bags featuring a 50µm film, it uses up to 60% less plastic, aiding in reducing the carbon footprint.

Mondi’s internal life cycle-based product impact assessment tool shows that PaperPlus Bag Advanced delivers a similar level of product protection.

The solution has been verified as recyclable according to the Confederation of European Paper Industries’ testing method and the 4Evergreen evaluation protocol.

The creation of this product stemmed from Mondi’s partnership with flooring systems manufacturer UZIN, aimed at protecting its fast-drying flooring solution.

With its water vapour barrier, the solution keeps materials both secure and dry in demanding environments.

It is designed to function smoothly on existing filling and sealing lines, enabling rapid implementation without the need for alterations to production equipment.

Mondi external sales industrial bags head Max Melzer said: “PaperPlus Bag Advanced is a future-ready alternative for customers seeking to reduce plastic and meet performance demands without compromising on efficiency.

“At Mondi, we are ready to support our customers, considering the environmental impacts of our products at each stage of the value chain.

“Following our own MAP2030 goals, we are working hard to offer solutions that contribute to a circular economy while being fully tailored to our customers’ needs.”

Earlier this month, Mondi collaborated with Saga Nutrition to launch recyclable packaging for Saga’s dry pet food products.
