Lecta broadens EraCup line with new eco-friendly paperboard options

Lecta, a European company producing and distributing speciality papers for labels and flexible packaging, has added new paperboard grades to its EraCup range, tailored to address the sustainability needs of disposable packaging in the foodservice sector.

The updated EraCup lineup includes EraCup Natural, EraCup 1PE 10, EraCup 1PE 15, and EraBase, designed for use in hot and cold drink cups, as well as food containers and boxes.

According to Lecta, all grades are fully recyclable, repulpable, and compliant with strict food safety and hygiene standards.

Crafted from solid bleached board sourced from sustainably certified forests, these products can be recycled via standard paper waste channels, with some grades certified for both industrial and home composting.

The paperboards feature a smooth, natural finish suitable for both flexographic and offset printing, supporting clear graphics and consistent branding.

They also include a reverse side coating – either aqueous dispersion or polyethylene – that ensures liquid-tight properties for cup production.

The company said the materials provide strong sealing capabilities, compatible with low-, medium-, and high-speed cup-forming equipment using heat or ultrasonic welding.

Lecta noted that the EraCup and EraBase grades are developed with circular economy principles in mind, facilitating effective end-of-life disposal.

This expansion reflects Lecta’s focus on creating sustainable paper-based solutions for the foodservice industry, responding to increasing demand for environmentally conscious packaging materials.

In April this year, Lecta launched Creaset HGP, a coated paper with grease-resistant properties applied to one side for flexible packaging.

Because of its grease resistance, the paper can be used for wrapping butter and serving as a laminate in pet food packaging.
