CAA urges packaging producers to submit supply data by end of month

Circular Action Alliance (CAA) has announced that producers operating within the packaging, paper products, and foodware sectors in Colorado, US, are required to report their supply data by the end of this month.

These producers must supply the data to CAA, which acts as the producer responsibility organisation (PRO) for the state.

This is a step to ensure compliance with Colorado’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) law and to facilitate the state’s shift towards a circular, producer-funded recycling system.

CAA, established in 2022, aids producers in complying with this process, ensuring that reports are submitted promptly and accurately.

The EPR law, part of Colorado’s Producer Responsibility Act, obligates producers to disclose the types and amounts of materials they introduce into the Colorado market.

This information is seen as crucial for establishing next year’s Colorado Producer Fee Rate Schedule, which will be based on the actual supply data provided to CAA by the set deadline.

CAA producer services SVP Geoffrey Inch said: “Colorado’s new recycling system is driven by producers, and participation of all producers is the foundation for a system that works better for everyone.

“With the 31 July deadline fast approaching, we urge all producers to act now and submit their Colorado producer supply reports on time, to comply with the law and ensure an efficient transition into the next phase of Colorado’s EPR implementation.”

As the designated PRO in Colorado, CAA’s role is pivotal in executing the state’s EPR laws effectively, focusing on paper and packaging.

This February, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in the US confirmed CAA as the PRO to carry out the state’s Packaging Waste and Cost Reduction Act.
