Leaders from across packaging industry join USPP to guide strategy


The US Plastics Pact (USPP) has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of four new members, in a move to accelerate progress towards circular solutions for plastic packaging.

These appointments come as part of the USPP’s ongoing efforts to promote a circular economy for plastic packaging in the US.

The newly appointed board members are Steve Alexander, president and CEO of the Association of Plastic Recyclers; John Garnett, senior vice-president of sustainability, technical, and innovation at Charter Next Generation; Mike Newman, CEO of Returnity; and Linda Roman, NA R&D fellow at Kraft Heinz.

Their collective experience spans recycling, packaging manufacturing, reuse innovation, and consumer brands, providing a broad range of insights to steer the USPP’s strategic direction.

USPP president and CEO Jonathan Quinn said: “The US Plastics Pact was built on the idea that change at scale requires bringing every part of the plastics value chain to the table. With these new board members, we are strengthening the USPP’s foundation through additional leaders who bring real-world expertise and a shared commitment to action.

“Their expertise will help us accelerate progress toward circular solutions for plastic packaging that reduce waste, improve recycling, reuse/refill and composting systems and build a stronger, more sustainable system in the US.”

The board of directors is tasked with supervision and guidance of the USPP.

Their role is seen as critical in uniting resources and expertise to foster collaboration and measurable progress within the plastic packaging value chain. The four new members join existing board members Holli Alexander, Susan Fife-Ferris, and Richie Getter.

Alexander said: “Welcoming these four new directors with their strong track record in pushing for sustainability and innovation throughout our industry marks an important step forward for the Pact.

“Their voices and leadership will be instrumental as we continue working toward our ambitious 2025 goals and beyond. Together, this board is well-positioned to accelerate the efforts of the USPP through the next phase of collaboration and innovation across the entire plastics value chain.”

The USPP is a collaborative network of over 100 organisations, including brands, retailers, resin producers, recyclers, governmental bodies, and more.

It is part of a global network of 13 national or regional Plastics Pacts, all committed to implementing solutions that will realise a circular economy for plastic.
