DIELINE Road Trip USA: Louisiana Edition

DIELINE Road Trip USA: Louisiana Edition

The mighty Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico (or “Gulf of America,” if you’re so inclined) at the corner of Louisiana. This geographic particularity has created a unique confluence of flora and fauna, and an entry point onto the continent. Over time, this point of entry and exit has also attracted different people for centuries. Louisiana today is a mix of various cultures and traditions; First Nations tribes, the French, Acadians, Spanish, West Africans, and Anglo-Americans have all settled in Louisiana. More recently, immigrants from the Philippines and Vietnam have also made the state home, adding new layers to Louisiana’s multicultural nature.

Add it all up, and Louisiana’s cultural mix has led to a unique culinary landscape full of delicious food, with Cajun, Creole, Latin American, and African American traditions coming together. Below is a small sampling of what the Bayou State has to offer. Of course, you’ll find hot sauce, but also a good mix of salty and sweet.
