The new mattress packaging consists of two key components: a compress wrapping and a secondary outer wrapper.

Mondi’s FunctionalBarrier Paper 95/5 ensures the mattress is securely vacuum-sealed during compression by utilising its thin protective coating.

Once compressed and rolled, the mattress is encased in Mondi’s FunctionalBarrier Paper Reduce outer wrapper, providing sealing properties to keep the high-end product safe during transit.

Ekornes Beds managing director Pål Aage Nordahl stated: “At Ekornes, we are passionate about delivering the best sleep you can dream of, and this new partnership with Mondi means we can now wrap that promise in a solution that aligns with our commitment to sustainability. Together, we’ve created packaging that not only protects our high-end mattresses, but also reflects our values and those of our customers.”

Mondi’s FunctionalBarrier Paper range offers recyclability and adheres to the 4evergreen Design for Circularity Guidelines, making it a recyclable option.

Mondi’s CompressWrap solution also integrates effortlessly with Ekornes’ existing machinery, offering a convenient and cost-effective transition for the furniture manufacturer.

The paper-based packaging solution enhances the consumer experience by allowing for easy unwrapping without the need for sharp tools.

Mondi foaming papers industry group manager Ola Forsberg stated: “This collaboration underscores our commitment to working hand-in-hand with our customers to solve industry-specific challenges. By understanding Ekornes’ needs, we were able to deliver a packaging solution that not only meets their technical requirements but also contributes towards a circular economy.”

In August 2025, Mondi introduced its new kraft paper, designed for both industrial and consumer packaging needs.
