If you’re freaking out about the anticipated tariffs coming in 2025 that incoming US president Donald Trump has promised, well, you should be. Not only as an American consumer who is about to pay more for almost everything but also if you’re involved in branding, designing, or manufacturing packaging.
What’s scary to me is that this is a follow-up piece to a story I wrote in 2019 about Trump’s tariffs. That piece looked back at the impact that Trump 1.0 had on the materials we use for packaging. This time, we’re looking ahead. But the world has significantly changed since The Don lived in federally funded housing, and there’s more uncertainty surrounding his new tariff plans.
A substantial part of Donald Trump’s campaign was his tariff proposals. Trump has indicated that he would impose tariffs as high as 25% on North American trade partners Canada and Mexico and an additional 10% on China.
